Robert Owens, President, joined Owens Group in 1978; the firm was founded by his father, Herbert Owens, in 1957. He is actively engaged in all areas of the firm’s practice and serves on the Board of Directors, the Management Committee and the Owens Group Advisory Committee.
Bob has served on a number of charitable boards and is currently a board member of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, the Horace Mann School, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz and the Of Many Institute for Multifaith Leadership at NYU, co-chaired by Chelsea Clinton and Dr. Linda Mills.
After graduating from New York University with Honors in Politics in 1971, Bob worked on Capitol Hill for two Representatives. He subsequently worked as an investigative reporter for syndicated columnist Jack Anderson and as the co-author of the “The Investigators” column for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. He also wrote the nationally syndicated “Insure Yourself” column for four years.
Executive Vice President
Joe Ehrlich joined the firm in 2004 and represents the third generation of the Owens family at Owens Group. He leads the firm’s Private Equity, Hedge Fund and Financial Services Practice Area, where he helps clients with complex insurance needs. Joe also manages the firm’s Claims Department and serves on both the Owens Group Board of Directors and its Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining the Owens Group, Joe spent many years practicing law with O’Melveny & Myers LLP and its predecessor, O’Sullivan Graev & Karabell LPP. During that time, he assisted clients in evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and consummating private equity transactions.
Joe graduated cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in Classics in 1992. He received his J.D. from New York University’s School of Law in 1997.
Joe serves as President of the NYU Law Alumni Board . He also volunteers as Chair of Columbia University’s Benefits Committee, is a member of the Columbia University Alumni Association (CAA) Strategic Planning Committee and several other committees of the CAA. Joe is also a board member of the Columbia Club of New York.
Human Resources & Operations Manager
Maria Matarazzo, joined the firm in 2002. She serves as the agency’s Human Resources and Operations Manager. Prior to joining the Owens Group, Maria spent 13 years at JP Morgan Chase in various Human Resources roles. She holds a Human Resources Generalist certification from the Society of Human Resources Management. Maria is responsible for recruiting, compensation and benefits, employee relations, training and daily agency operations. She serves on the Management Committee and the Owens Group Advisory Committee.
Commercial Insurance Manager
Jean Dennehy, CIC, joined the firm in 1990 and specializes in evaluating and placing commercial insurance risks. She is a past President and Treasurer of the Insurance Professionals of Rockland County. She is also a recipient of its Insurance Professional of the Year. Jean has more than 30 years of business risk management experience. She currently serves on the Owens Group Management Committee and is Chairperson of the Owens Group’s charity fund.
Personal Lines Manager
Michelle Clark, CIC, joined Owens Group in 2013 and specializes in evaluating and placing personal insurance programs designed to match the unique needs of each client. Michelle brings over 15 years of experience to Owens Group. She began her career in the industry as an insurance processor at First Trenton in 1996, and most recently was a member of the personal lines management team at Marsh McLennan Agency, Northeast Division. Michelle studied business management at Camden County College and Glassboro State University.
Life, Health & Employee Benefits Manager
Denise Kligman, LTCP, CLTC, joined the firm in 1998. She works with individual and corporate clients in developing insurance plans, and strategies that best suit their needs. Her expertise includes Life Insurance and Long-Term Health Care planning. Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Skidmore College and has more than 25 years of experience in the Life & Health field.
New Business Supervisor
Victoria Cioce, LTCP and New Business Supervisor in our Personal Insurance Division, joined the firm in 2003. Victoria initially joined us as a Life & Health Coordinator and studied to obtain her Long-Term Care Professional designation. She then joined our Marketing and Administration teams, leading these departments in a dual role. Since 2007, she has been an active member of our Personal Insurance Division and handles our new business operations. Victoria graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Spanish.
Account Servicing Supervisor
Dorene Stockman, CIC, joined Owens Group in 2007 as a Senior Account Executive, bringing with her more than 15 years of experience. She started her career in Boston, where she worked at both the company and the agency level. In 2013, Dorene took on the added role of Account Servicing Supervisor, and currently oversees risk assessment and the placement of new business in the Commercial Insurance Division.

Melanie Komninos originally joined Owens Group in 1990, beginning her career as a Customer Service Representative in our Commercial Insurance Division. Leaving Owens Group in 1998 to work with two firms on the wholesale and underwriting sides of the insurance industry, she gained significant additional experience in real estate risk management. In 2005, Melanie rejoined our firm as a Senior Account Executive and now serves as Account Servicing Supervisor, overseeing a team that assesses the risks and placements of both new and existing commercial real estate clients.
Adam Herfield, AAI, joined the firm in 2015. Adam has almost 10 years of experience specializing in all aspects of production, new business development, and managing client relationships. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Central Florida, he started his career in sports advertising. Adam transitioned to the insurance industry in 2010, joining a midsize agency in the Boston area. He earned his AAI designation from the Peerless/Liberty Mutual Producer School in Keene, New Hampshire in 2011. Adam facilitates and oversees new client relationships for both Personal and Commercial Insurance and assists clients in finding solutions tailored to fit their unique and individual needs.
